Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto

Jacoby Symphony Hall | Downtown Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Symphony’s 75th season gets in gear with acclaimed pianist Joyce Yang (one of several visiting artists who’ll tickle the organization’s state-of-the-art Steinway this season) performing Rachmaninoff’s well known Second Piano Concerto. TESTIFY! A new work by critically-praised composer Brittany J. Green gets its world premiere. And Richard Strauss’ A Hero’s Life closes out an evening conducted by symphony Music Director Courtney Lewis. 7:30 p.m. Tickets and more info.

48 Hour Mural Project 

Phoenix Arts & Innovation District | Downtown Jacksonville

The second annual 48-Hour Mural Project is held this weekend at the increasingly bustling Phoenix Arts & Innovation District. At 6 p.m. on Friday, after being informed of the specific elements they’ll need to incorporate into their mural, selected muralists will have 48 hours to complete their project. The event concludes at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, and the public is encouraged to come view the works in progress and cheer on the muralists. It’s free to attend. More info.

Papercutting with Hiromi Moneyhun

Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens | Riverside 

World-renowned, Jacksonville-based artist Hiromi Moneyhun leads a workshop on papercutting at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens on Sunday. Moneyhun will share the techniques to create two- and three-dimensional artworks from paper using templates and the proper cutting tools. No experience required. 12:30-3:30 p.m. $50 for members. $75 for non-members. More info
