Traffic will be disrupted again this weekend on the Buckman Bridge.

This time, single southbound lanes will close from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday as crews continue to replace the structure’s steel joints.

The lanes will reopen in time for Monday’s rush hour, the Florida Department of Transportation said.

Past work on the bridge, which has included full weekend shutdowns of up to two lanes, has caused long backups into Jacksonville’s Westside and Mandarin areas depending on which direction is being worked on. That has forced drivers to take long detours to the Shands Bridge to the south, or the Fuller Warren Bridge to the north.

Work on the $5.4 million project is expected to wrap up late this year.

The Shands Bridge also has undergone FDOT shutdowns or single-lane lane closures in recent months, sometimes from Friday nights to Monday morning. That work has caused detours to the Buckman Bridge in Mandarin or Memorial Bridge in Palatka — up 80 miles depending on which side of the river the journey starts.
