The Players Championship is donating $1 million toward the new Museum of Science & History planned on the Northbank.
The gift will sponsor an exhibit within one of the planned galleries exploring the science, skill and art of golf — “sparking a greater understanding and appreciation for a game deeply rooted in this region,” the museum said in a news release Monday.
The new MOSH, on 2.5 acres of the Shipyards along East Bay Street, will house 10 galleries, a cafe and other spaces for community programming and events in a five-story, 125,000-square-foot building.
The museum’s fundraising campaign has raised nearly $100 million toward a goal of $150 million. Groundbreaking is expected in early 2027.
The Players has donated more than $130 million to over 300 area nonprofits since 1974. It invests in organizations committed to areas such as youth services, education, character development, health, wellness, sports and military support.
“We’re proud to partner with the Museum of Science & History on a project that will create a lasting asset for Northeast Florida, deepen The Players’ connection to downtown Jacksonville and provide families with a new way to engage with the championship year-round,” Lee Smith, vice president of The Players Championship and TPC Sawgrass, said in the news release.
Chris Kalin, a member of the museum’s board of trustees member and PNC regional president for North and Central Florida, said The Players’ investment is “a powerful example of how our business community can help shape transformational projects that will serve Jacksonville for generations.”
