Summer at the Cummer in Riverside, a Black Rodeo on the Westside and a celebration of zine culture in Riverside are What to Do this weekend in the Jacksonville area.

Summer at the Cummer

Friday

Cummer Museum | Riverside

Kick off your weekend with the first Summer at the Cummer of the season this Friday night! Throughout June, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is throwing open its doors with free admission. This series is easily one of my personal favorites. It is so nice to unwind with friends and family out on the lawn in one of Jacksonville’s most beautiful riverfront settings. In addition to seeing the art inside the galleries and enjoying the kids’ area of the museum, there are live music, outdoor games and art experiences highlighting local Northeast Florida creatives, with plenty of food and drinks available for purchase.

5th Annual Jacksonville Invitational Black Rodeo

Saturday

Jacksonville Equestrian Center | Westside

The Jacksonville Invitational Black Rodeo is back for its fifth year, bringing an exciting day of rodeo competition to Jacksonville while also shining a light on an often-overlooked chapter of American history.
Along with events like bull riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling, the rodeo celebrates the legacy of Black cowboys and cowgirls, who played a significant role in shaping the American West and continue to be an important part of rodeo culture today.

Duval Comic and Zine Fest

Saturday

CoRK Arts District | Riverside

Another favorite! What a great weekend. The Duval Comic & Zine Fest is celebrating its fifth anniversary by entering its “block party era” at the CoRK Arts District. For the uninitiated, a zine is a DIY, independently published booklet used for everything from underground art and comics to poetry and activism. This year’s fest promises to be the biggest yet, spotlighting more than 70 self-published creators and offering hands-on activities like a zine swap and Risograph printing along with food and drink from local favorites like Bold City Brewing, Solune Coffee and Seitanic Jax.
