A hologram-like mayor welcomes Jax visitors

Travelers arriving at Jacksonville International Airport will now be greeted by a smiling Mayor Donna Deegan — or at least a virtual version of her.

A cutting-edge hologram-like platform now sits alongside the airport’s iconic piano and rocking chairs in the courtyard of the terminal’s security area.

Inside a big clear box, a lifelike, 3D representation of Deegan welcomes visitors in English, German, Japanese, French and Spanish.

It’s not technically a hologram, but it appears the real Deegan is standing there.

Pretty soon, airport officials say, you’ll be able to push a button, select a language and ask the mayor about places to visit on the First Coast … and she’ll give you an answer.
