School crossing guard charged in hit-and-run

A school crossing guard with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has been arrested in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning in Northwest Jacksonville.

Witnesses saw a car hit a man at Edgewood Avenue and New Kings Road about 11 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office said. The man was critically injured.

Witnesses provided a tag number that led police to Carolyn Bacon’s home. That’s where they found a car that appeared to have been involved in the incident.

Jail records show Bacon was charged with hit and run with serious injuries and evidence tampering.

The Sheriff’s Office says Bacon had been a school crossing guard since 2018. She resigned after she was arrested.
