Civitas, an urban design and landscape architectural firm from Denver, created the design after people gave their reactions to three conceptual ideas presented for review at an open house last summer.

A total of $13 million is set aside in the city’s Capital Improvement Plan for revitalization of the 42-year-old riverfront park space across from EverBank Stadium.

Civitas presented the three conceptual designs at a town hall meeting June 25. The three proposals were based on 225 online surveys and suggestions from 67 people who attended a town hall meeting in April. Now Civitas will take more suggestions during Wednesday’s open house this week

All three designs reviewed by the public in June include parking and either wide crosswalks or an overhead walkway to get to EverBank Stadium and its parking areas. All of the designs would save trees at the park, some dating back to the 1980s.

It could take a year or so for the final version of the park to go through detailed engineering and landscape design. Then it would be up to the city to approve it and schedule construction. No date for that has been set.
