Fill My Heart with Hope

MOCA | Downtown Jacksonville

The second half of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville’s 100-year-anniversary celebration kicks off with Fill My Heart With Hope: Works From The Gordon W. Bailey Collection, an exhibition of more than 100 works from the collection of the notable L.A.-based scholar and art collector – many by less-heralded artists with no formal training, hailing from the Deep South. More than 56 luminary artists are represented in this massive exhibition, which takes up more than one of MOCA’s galleries. The exhibit is on view through March 23, 2025. The museum is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. More info.

Fabric of a Nation

Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens | Riverside

Last week, the Cummer unveiled Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories, an exhibition of 44 remarkable textiles and other works of art created by a variety of makers dating from the 17th century to the present day. The nationally touring exhibition, organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, goes to great lengths to showcase the diversity of America, and shows how the artform of quilting has evolved over time. The museum is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday. (The exhibit can be viewed for free as part of Friday’s Summer at the Cummer event). Exalted Shores (Gallery Tour)

Beaches Museum | Jacksonville Beach

Northeast Florida’s distinctive coastline gets the fine-art treatment in Exalted Shores, an exhibit of new works by Duval artists, the photographer Tom Schifanella and the glass artist Clint Burbridge. And on Saturday, the two artists lead a tour of their work at 11 a.m. $5 for non-members. More information and registration

Ben Brough Artist Residency Opening

Hotel Palms | Atlantic Beach

California-born, Hawaii-bred artist Ben Brough is the newest artist-in-residence at ultra-hip Atlantic Beach inn, the Hotel Palms. On Saturday, the Palms shares a new exhibition of work made by Brough while on site at the hotel. Local bands Seagate and Patsy’s Daydream also perform. 6 p.m-10 p.m. Free to attend. More info

The Jazz Jam 

Wildcrafters | Riverside 

The second of three installments of the popular summer music happening, The Jazz Jam, is held at Wildcrafters on Sunday. Hosted each week by Duval-bred, Grammy-winning drummer Ulysses Owens Jr., this weekend’s jam features guitarist Barry Greene and pianist Scott Giddens. 7 p.m-10 p.m. Free to attend but space is limited, so get there early.
