It’s now a little easier to get your marriage license, passport application and public records sorted out thanks to St. Johns County’s Clerk’s Office.
The clerk of court recently opened its Public Service Center, which brings together a number of services that were previously housed in different buildings. Now, handling your building permits can be done at the same office — at 4040 Lewis Speedway — as getting a marriage license.

Not all services are under the center’s roof. Services including child support assistance and traffic ticket payments will still be handled at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center at 4010 Lewis Speedway in St. Augustine.
Speaking in a video the county produced about the new offering, Clerk of Court Brandon Patty used documents required to perform home improvements greater than $5,000 as an example of how the new center functions.
“An issue over time has been if you were coming here to record a notice of commencement, you would have to come to the permit center first, go all the way to the courthouse, go through security — all the things — and then come back here,” Patty said. “Anytime you need a recorded notice of commencement, you just come to this one building.”

Access at the new clerk’s office center
Along with bringing a number of services under one roof, Patty says the new building offers more customer service kiosks than were previously available to better accommodate customers.
“We’re trying to make it just as seamless as possible, so that residents can come in, take care of their business and head home,” he said.
The county’s Public Service Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
