JEA raises rates, but bills could fall

JEA will increase its base electricity rates for residential and commercial customers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your bill will go up.

The utility says customers may actually see their electric bills go down due to a drop in the cost of fuel used to power generation plants.

The JEA board of directors approved the rate increase Tuesday, to take effect Monday. In a new release afterward, utility officials said bills will decrease by about $1.30 per 1,000 kilowatts of electricty.

The utility said its fuel rate for April will reach the lowest level since November 2021.

JEA officials predict that the utility will continue to have the lowest residential utility bills compared to other major metropolitan areas in Florida, even with this increase.
