The Armory South: The 1924 Jacksonville Woman’s Club Exhibition Rediscovered

MOCA Jax | Downtown Jacksonville

If you haven’t seen it yet, this sweltering weekend is the perfect time to head indoors and rediscover a part of Jacksonville’s lost art history with The Armory South: The 1924 Jacksonville Woman’s Club Exhibition Rediscovered. This exhibit reassembles core works from a nearly forgotten but influential Modernist show first mounted in March 1924 by the Woman’s Club of Jacksonville and the newly formed Jacksonville Fine Arts Society—now known as MOCA. Part of the museum’s centennial year, The Armory South show explores the early introduction of Modernism to the American South and the vital role women played in shaping the direction of American art during the 1920s.

333 N. Laura St.; View the exhibit and the rest of MOCA for free on VyStar Free Saturdays; More info.
