Low-income residents get help to reduce energy bills

The city of Jacksonville has been awarded a $845,350 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to help reduce energy bills for low-income households.

The money will be used to conduct energy audits on 110  homes; replace HVAC units, doors and windows; and install energy efficient light bulbs.

The program will start serving low-income residents on the Eastside and then expand citywide, working in partnership with JEA and community organizations.

Now that the grant has been awarded, the city’s housing and community development division will finalize the program criteria. 

Once City Council approves the program, the city will announce how residents can sign up.
