Bab’s Lab Story Slam

A guru of narrative performance, local artist and educator Barbara Colaciello has been coaxing stories out of folks for decades. On Friday, Colaciello’s popular Bab’s Labs Story Slam series engages audience members to participate in a friendly storytelling competition. Willing participants will be asked to tell a five-minute story based on the adage no class. The winner, chosen by the audience, will receive a $50 gift card from a local vendor. Participation is not required. Tickets are $16. More info here.

Duval County Queer Pride Festival
The Walrus | Murray Hill
Murray Hill restaurant and music venue The Walrus hosts programming for this year’s Duval County Queer Pride festival, continuing Friday night with the Heaux Down, featuring a lineup of local country and Americana artists. Saturday brings drag performances hosted by local electro-pop artist Bebe Deluxe. Sunday’s programming features a lineup of Jax-based queer and trans artists, including Deluxe, Bad Madonna, Kenny and the Jets, Daddy and more. Tickets are sliding scale at the door. Go Skate Day

Unimpeachably cool Springfield skateboard shop The Block Skate Supply is putting the spotlight on Duval’s historic importance in what has become a global culture and form of artistic expression with an event celebrating Go Skate Day at the historic Mount Zion AME Church on Saturday. Vendors, a lineup of live music performances and food trucks set the stage for the event’s pièce de réstistance: A $3K-cash-prize best-trick contest. The event is held from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. It’s free to attend.
