Multispecialty surgery center opens on Jacksonville’s Southside

A new medical complex incorporating a multispecialty surgery center and multiple medical offices was officially opened Friday afternoon near Butler and Kernan boulevards.

UF Health and Jax Spine & Pain Centers opened what they call a state-of-the-art collaboration to give Duval and St. Johns County residents new options for medical care.

The 54,000-square-foot Centurion Surgery Center and medical office building is on First Coast Tech Parkway, near the University of North Florida.

“This project is groundbreaking because it brings outstanding organizations together to better the health care of thousands of people on Jacksonville’s Southside,” UF Health Jacksonville CEO Russ Armistead said. “Having an outpatient surgery center and medical office building right where people live is an amazing resource, and we are proud to be a part of it.”

Added Christopher Roberts, founder of Jax Spine and Pain Centers, “We wanted a place that catered to interventional spine procedures and would allow us to have an environment where we could give great care in an outpatient care facility, specialized and created specifically for pain management,”

The$25 million project, which includes a 19,000-square-foot first floor Centurion Surgery Center, will offer procedures for spine, orthopaedics, gastrointestinal, oral and maxillofacial, gynecology, as well as interventional pain management. Representing the largest freestanding multispecialty surgery center in the area, it will be open five days a week to perform complex surgeries in an outpatient setting,hospital officials said.

The center will offer radiology services on the first floor and medical offices on the second and third floors. Physicians and staff from Jax Spine & Pain Centers and the UF College of Medicine will collaborate on select services for spine patients. The goal of the collaboration is to offer efficient access and lower wait times for patients scheduling procedures and to allow participating physicians to use it.

UF Health Jacksonville is a private, not-for-profit hospital affiliated with the University of Florida health campuses in Jacksonville and Gainesville. Jax Spine & Pain Centers was founded in 1999 and specializes in the treatment of back, neck, shoulder, knee, hip and chronic pain.
