Florida Fin Fest is circling Jax Beach this weekend. The free, two-day festival brings together live music and a passion for protecting our local coastlines and marine life. It was started by a couple of Jacksonville locals who wanted to make a genuine environmental impact while putting on a fun event. Come out for the food trucks, local vendors and a music lineup of acts like Andy Frasco & The U.N. and Magic City Hippies. Plus, the fest has an awesome interactive Education Village with touch tanks, underwater virtual reality simulations and exhibits from groups like OCEARCH and Jacksonville University. It’s a family-friendly way to enjoy the beach while supporting a cause that means so much to our community.

BioBlitz at Blue Cypress Park

If you enjoy getting out and spending time in nature, BioBlitz, hosted by the St. Johns Riverkeeper and the Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, is for you. It’s a fun, hands-on opportunity to explore a great local park and act as a citizen scientist for a morning. Local Native Plant Society chapter Director Adam Arendell (who, full disclosure, is also my husband) will be leading this guided walk along the loop trail to point out native plants, wildlife and fungi. You’ll be using the free iNaturalist app on your phone to log whatever species you spot, helping scientists map our local ecosystem’s biodiversity. No prior expert knowledge is needed. Just download the app beforehand, bring your phone and enjoy a morning in the park.

Catch Me If You Can

Limelight Theatre | St. Augustine
Limelight Theatre is kicking off its 35th season with Catch Me If You Can. Based on the hit film and true story, the show follows the wild adventures of Frank Abagnale Jr., a young con artist who successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer while leading the FBI on a cat-and-mouse chase across the country. Packed with 1960s-style big band music and lively choreography, this musical version is a wonderful evening of local theater.
