St. Johns County just cut the ribbon on an expansion to its Field of Dreams baseball park. The facility is specially designed to be accessible to children of all abilities, so everyone has the chance to play baseball. The $1.5 million expansion gave the park a bigger parking lot, a concession stand and ADA-accessible bathrooms. Jamie Baccari, assistant director of parks and recreation, said the expansion “is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community commits to inclusion in recreation.” After the ribbon cutting, everyone got to enjoy a baseball game and a hot dog from the new concession stand. The ball field is located at Aberdeen Park at 1401 Shetland Drive, which also has an ADA-accessible playground.
