Orange County is willing to spend millions to lure the Jacksonville Jaguars to town while EverBank Stadium is being renovated.
County commissioners voted 6-1 on Tuesday to use of up to $11 million, in part, to entice the Jaguars to play their 2027 home season at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.
The money also will be used to attract AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships, Ultimate Fighting Championship events and others to the area.
The Jaguars will be displaced from EverBank Stadium in 2027 as the stadium undergoes $1.4 billion in renovations.
Florida Citrus Sports, the Orlando area’s sports commission, says the estimated economic impact to the Orlando area would be $20 million-plus per weekend if the Jaguars move in for eight home games.
The NFL and the Jaguars will discuss 2027 locations in May. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at the University of Florida is another possibility for the Jaguars.
A final decision is expected this summer.
