A veteran corrections officer has been arrested on a domestic battery charge after an incident on Thursday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says.
Sgt. Donald Boston, 47, was booked on the misdemeanor charge, then released, Duval County jail records show.
Boston has been a Jacksonville corrections officer for more than 17 years. He was arrested after he grabbed a family member’s arm during an argument, Sheriff’s Office Director Joe Cowan said.
“When Boston grabbed the victim, the victim pulled away, causing the victim to fall to the ground,” Cowan said at a news conference Monday. “The victim was not injured. Boston suffered a laceration to his arm. Based on the totality of the circumstances, Boston was arrested by the integrity detectives for domestic battery.”
Boston has been stripped of his authority and placed on administrative status, the director said. When Boston’s criminal case is over, an internal investigation will begin into last week’s incident, Cowan said.
Boston is the 14th Sheriff’s Office employee arrested by the agency this year. Five more have been arrested by other police departments.
The last arrest was corrections Lt. Alphonso Waddell on Nov. 25.
