Spirit in the Land

Cummer Museum & Gardens | Riverside

A new exhibition of works by contemporary artists from North America and the Caribbean exploring our connection to the natural world and the importance of biodiversity, Spirit in the Land is on view at the Cummer. Featuring works by more than 30 artists, including Michif visual artist Christi Belcourt, the late American painter Peter Williams, the late Chinese-American painter Hung Liu and the late interdisciplinary artist Terry Adkins, among others, Spirit in the Land is on view through February 9, 2025. The museum is open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday. Note: The museum’s gardens are closed for maintenance until further notice. More info.

Alexei Romanenko

Jacoby Symphony Hall | Downtown Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Symphony’s principal cellist Alexei Romanenko leads the orchestra through Antonín Dvořák’s famed Cello Concerto, one of the Czech composer’s most endearing pieces. Both Friday and Saturday’s programs also include some of the first performances of New-York-based composer Angel Lam’s Please let there be a paradise…, as well as the late English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Fourth Symphony. 7:30 p.m. Tickets and more info.

Little Alley Shows: Sun Lowly

The alley behind the Elks Club Building | Downtown Jacksonville

Back for another series of intimate concerts in a unique setting, Little Alley Shows present a performance by Jax-based Filipina-American singer-songwriter Sun Lowley. Produced by the folks behind ultra-cool Downtown vintage shop Wolf & Cub, the concerts take place in the alley behind the historic Elks Club Building on Laura Street in Downtown Jacksonville. CoRK Open Studios

CoRK Arts District | Riverside

Spanning more than 80,000 square feet of converted warehouse space and home to the studios of more than 70 artists, Riverside’s CoRK Arts District is an inspiring hive of creativity, the exploration of which likely requires more than a full-day. Luckily, the latest iteration of the compound’s Open Studios is held over two days. On Saturday and Sunday from noon-6 p.m., the public is invited in for a self-guided tour of the artists’ studios. Admission is free, so you should consider putting that money toward the purchase of some local art, as most if not all the work on display will be for sale. More details.
