A Jacksonville police officer shot a man who led officers on a chase early Tuesday after a road rage incident.

Someone reported they were threatened with a gun near Interstate 95 and MLK Parkway, said Chief of Investigations Alan Parker. When officers found the driver of the other vehicle, identified as 45-year-old Charles Guernsey, he took off. A 25- to 30-mile chase ended near Beaver Street and Chaffee Road.

“At the termination point of the pursuit, the suspect jumped out of the vehicle to flee. One of the officers engaged him and fired multiple rounds. The suspect was shot,” Parker said.

Guernsey was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. Police said no weapons were found, but they are waiting on a warrant to search Guernsey’s vehicle.

The officer in the shooting was identified as Stephen Hicks. Police said this is his second shooting in three years with the Sheriff’s Office.
