Jacksonville’s signature literary celebration, the annual Jax-by-Jax Literary Arts Festival, will take place next weekend, marking its first decade.
Festival founder Tim Gilmore, a local author, historian, and blogger, describes what Jax By Jax is about.
“Having Jacksonville hear the literary voice of Jacksonville, you know to celebrate that we have this community here. Jacksonville gets beat up for lots of things — beats itself up for lots of things and often deserves it — but you know, we have a great arts community in this town,” Gilmore said Monday on First Coast Connect.
High-profile residents — including former Jacksonville Sheriff Nat Glover and current mayor Donna Deegan — will open and close the Jax-by-Jax Literary Arts Festival with readings from their memoirs.
The event includes workshops, coaching, readings and a student showcase.
The festival is scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Kent Campus off Roosevelt Boulevard on the city’s Westside.
