Clay County school police officer dies while scuba diving

A 50-year-old school police officer in Clay County died Saturday while scuba diving in Pickens County, South Carolina.

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook announced the death of Officer Anthony “Tony” Reno, the school resource officer at Plantation Oaks Elementary School.

Reno was diving in Lake Jocassee, just north of Salem, South Carolina, the Pickens County Coroner’s Office told WSPA-TV. The coroner’s office said he became unresponsive during a recreational dive and was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Oconee.

Funeral arrangements are pending, Cook said.
