If you live in St. Augustine and have ever wanted to learn more about how your local government works, now may be your chance.
The city is inviting residents and business owners to learn more about the ins and outs of the city’s operations through a new Citizens Academy program.
Over the course of six sessions, the free series of classes will give 20 people the opportunity to better understand the city’s various departments and how important decisions are made.
City Manager Reuben Franklin says he hopes the program will inspire residents to become involved in their local government.
“We see this as an opportunity for one-on-one engagement, allowing our residents to really get a glimpse of how things work at the city,” Franklin said. “Our goal is not only to educate our residents, but to get to know them and for them to get to know us outside of commission meetings or in large community settings.”
Applications are available on the city’s website and are due back to City Hall by March 9. The program is limited to 20 spaces, and the city says those will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
