Former Jacksonville Jaguars Coach Jack Del Rio, the team’s second head coach, has been arrested on a charge of intoxicated and impaired driving, according to police in Madison, Wisconsin.
As ESPN reported Monday, Del Rio will now leave his new job as the senior adviser to University of Wisconsin head Coach Luke Fickell, following his Friday arrest.

“But it’s a tough situation,” Fickell told ESPN. “Decisions that all of us have to be able to take full responsibility for. So that’s what Jack will do, and we’ll continue to move forward.”
“I’m grateful to Coach Fickell and the University of Wisconsin for the opportunity to work with such a talented coaching and support staff and some of the best young football players in the country. I have decided to step away from my position with the team, so they can focus all their attention on the remainder of the season,” Del Rio told Jacksonville Today through a spokesperson.
According to Madison police, officers were dispatched just after 12:30 a.m. Friday to a crash after a vehicle hit a street sign and broke a fence before ending up in a front yard. Officers found the driver walking away from the area, and he was arrested.

Del Rio, 61, was head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003 to 2011, following Tom Coughlin, who led the team for seven years after its inaugural 2005 season.
Del Rio had just joined the Wisconsin Badger football program as the senior advisor, according to his team biography, following four years as defensive coordinator for the NFL’s Washington Commanders.
