Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800 to 1960

Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens | Riverside

Last week, the Cummer unveiled a new exhibition exploring the evolution of women’s sporting attire in Western fashion. Featuring more than 60 ensembles worn by women in Europe and North America for a range of activities – from golfing to motorcycling, swimming to piloting – Sporting Fashion chronicles how, over the course of more than a century and a half, the clothes that women wore changed to reflect their activities and pursuits. The exhibit is on view through May 19. The museum is open Fridays from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sundays from noon-4 p.m. More info.

Friday & Saturday

Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony

Jacoby Symphony Hall | Downtown Jacksonville

Two points of emphasis about the Jacksonville Symphony’s performances this weekend: The symphony’s formidable Bryan Concert Organ will be put to use in service of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns’ distinctive Third Symphony, and the renowned contemporary composer and New Orleans native Courtney Bryan (no relation to the organ) returns for the premiere of a new work commissioned by another Courtney, Symphony Musical Director Courtney Lewis. Performances on Friday and Saturday start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and more info.

Sunday

Kenari Sax Quartet

St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church | Jacksonville Beach

The innovative saxophone-toting ensemble Kenari Sax Quartet performs as part of the Beaches Fine Arts Series at St. Paul’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church on Sunday. Formed in 2012 at Indiana University, the quartet brings together four standout musicians: Bob Eason (soprano), Kyle Baldwin (alto), Corey Dundee (tenor) and Steven Banks (baritone). As a group, the Kenari Sax Quartet leans, and breathes new life, into music by living composers. In addition to the concert, works by Florida-based visual artist Hillary Hogue will be on view. Show starts at 4 p.m. (Doors at 3:15) Free to attend. More info.
