Legacy Interrupted

Yellow House | Riverside 

Community arts space Yellow House hosts an exhibition of new works by its founder, Hope McMath, the former director of the Cummer Museum and Gardens. McMath’s first exhibition at the space she’s created for local artists of all disciplines, Legacy Interrupted features a series of prints – woodcuts, silkscreens, and letterpress – that weave “together narratives of personal history with themes driving contemporary debates on race, teaching of truth, and the power of remembrance and repair.” An opening reception is set for Friday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. It’s free to attend. Bab’s Lab Story Slam

A guru of narrative performance, local artist and educator Barbara Colaciello has been coaxing stories out of folks for decades. On Friday, Colaciello’s popular Bab’s Labs Story Slam series engages audience members to participate in a friendly storytelling competition. Willing participants will be asked to tell a five-minute story based on the theme of dreamy. The winner, chosen by the audience, will receive a $50 gift card to Downtown Jax retailer Wolf & Cub. Participation is not required to attend. Tickets: $17. More info.

Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

Fort Mose Historic State Park | St. Augustine

The Fort Mose Jazz and Blues Series presents a performance by the legendary trumpeter, educator, bandleader and jazz torchbearer Wynton Marsalis, leading the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, at Fort Mose Historic Park on Saturday. Now in its third year, the annual series brings in high-profile musical artists to increase awareness and honor Fort Mose: the St. Augustine landmark that is the site of the first legally sanctioned free African settlement in the nation.
