If you are busy during the week, you’ll have a chance to get the passport application process started this weekend if you plan to travel internationally anytime soon.
The St. Johns County Clerk’s Office will host a passport event from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Richard Watson Judicial Center, 4010 Lewis Speedway in St. Augustine. The event is open to anyone in the Northeast Florida area.

St. Johns County Clerk of Courts Brandon Patty says this is the third passport event his office has hosted in the past year and this time around officials expect 100 to 250 people at this event.
“Of course when school starts, folks are starting to make plans for the holiday season. So we try to time these so that they can get through processing with the Department of State and get them back in the hands and time for travel.” Patty says.
If a passport is needed for a child 15 years or younger, both parents or legal guardians must be present to apply. Patty says this weekend’s event is a great opportunity to do that.

If you are planning on traveling anytime soon, you are encouraged to apply for a passport several months before because it takes a long time to get it. The U.S. State Department says routine services typically take 10 to 13 weeks from the day the department receives the application. There is a way to get a passport in seven to nine weeks by paying a $60 fee plus express mail expenses.
During the passport event Saturday in St. Augustine, you will have the chance to talk to officials about the needed documentation to travel internationally, but the clerk’s office will only be able to speak about passports. If you need to talk about Nexus cards or visas, you would need to go to the State Department’s website or contact the country’s travel tourism board or the country’s immigration and customs for more information.
