St. Augustine boaters should expect dredging next week in Salt Run.
Dredging is scheduling to start Monday in Salt Run from the Lighthouse Park Boat Ramp to the mouth of the Salt Run Channel at St. Augustine Inlet.
The monthlong project will remove about 10,000 cubic yards of material, off-loaded to a barge for transport to Jacksonville’s Reed Island Dredged Material Management Area.
The dredging is necessary to ensure safe access for all boating activities in Salt Run, as well as those sailing the Intracoastal Waterway, city officials said.
The project is funded by a grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District and St Augustine Port, Waterway, and Beach District.
The dredged material will ultimately be used for landfill, beach replenishment and construction projects, the city says.
