Jax film fest moves Downtown this weekend

The 2023 Jacksonville Film Festival has moved from San Marco to take over the city’s urban core this weekend.

The festival includes screenings of indie-films, workshops and panels split among three Downtown venues: WJCT Public Media, Jacksonville Public Library and Jessie Ball duPont Center.

Organizers want it to be “Oscar qualifying” (from which the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences selects nominees).

So they’re bringing in top-notch short films like “The Mirror Game,” which can be seen this Friday evening at the WJCT studios on Festival Park Avenue. Festival artistic and programming director Tim Driscoll says the movie is about two long time friends:

“And they, through this evening, discover that their relationship could go to new places, but it’s not exactly what you might think; I don’t want to give too much away, because I want you to see it. It’s beautifully written, and again the director William Streubling will be in town.”
