Starting today, rides on the NAVI will be free (again).
The autonomous shuttles that run on Downtown Jax’s Bay Street initially offered free rides, but the cost went up to $1.75 in October.
With the NAVI initially struggling to attract riders, Jacksonville Transportation Authority CEO Nat Ford told the Duval DOGE Committee last month there’s been a further dip in ridership after the fare was instituted.
The JTA board of directors also just approved temporarily lower fares for bus rides. Fixed-route buses will drop from $1.75 per trip to $1, and express fares will go from $2.75 to $1.50. A seven-day pass will drop from $20 to $11.
The new fares will run from Feb. 1 through next summer.
JTA also plans to hold a series of public meetings next month to take input on its services. Details on those will be released soon.
