City approves demolition of Regency Square Mall’s east wing

As of about 9 a.m. Aug. 28, the former Regency Square Mall’s east wing was approved for demolition, meaning the 59-year-old regional shopping center’s days are visibly coming to an end.

The city issued a permit for Realco Recycling Co. Inc. to demolish the East Mall between Impact Church and the former JC Penney department store at the 9501 Arlington Expresssway property.

Realco Recycling will take down the East Mall structure, slab and foundations. The demolition will clear out 371,444 square feet of shopping center space.
