A Jacksonville teacher faces 50 criminal counts related to child sexual material — the second teacher arrested in a week, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office says.
Johnny Robinson III, 34, of Orange Park, a math teacher at Temple Christian Academy on the Westside, remains jailed on $375,000 bail. He is charged with transmitting obscene material to a minor, possession of child pornography and use of a computer to transmit the material, according to his court files.
Robinson was fired after the school learned of his arrest Wednesday.
“The situation is now in the hands of the proper authorities, and we will continue to cooperate as needed,” the school said in a statement. “Temple Christian Academy prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students. We were also advised that the matter did not involve our school, our staff or any of our students.”
The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation began after a 12-year-old girl told a School Resource Officer in December that she was receiving sexually explicit messages and images from unknown phone numbers.
The messages began in November and continued through January. The sender posed as another student at the school by naming friends and other students.
The girl tried to block the number, but the messages would resume from a different number, the Sheriff’s Office said. The messages stopped after the incident was reported to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigator said the messages were sent using a method of calling and texting typically made through an internet connection rather than a traditional cellular call — a method of keeping the person’s identity secret.
Investigators went to Robinson’s apartment March 30 and searched his cellphone with a warrant. Exactly what they found was blacked out in an arrest affidavit.
Robinson was arrested on 10 counts, and 40 more were added Friday.
The arrest came days after a teacher at River City Science Academy was arrested and charged with having a romantic relationship with a student.
Like Robinson, Jackson Jordan Hull, 25, was fired.
