Lanes on the Buckman Bridge will be closed again this weekend, but in the opposite direction of past weeks.
Two of the four northbound lanes of Interstate 295 — from Mandarin to the Westside — will close at 10 p.m. Friday and reopen by 4 a.m. Monday as crews continue to replace the structure’s steel joints.
The Florida Department of Transportation said the ramp from San Jose Boulevard to I-295 North also will be closed during the weekend’s work. Motorists will have to detour on Old St. Augustine Road to access I-295 North.
The bridge work may affect people trying to get back to Clay County or Westside Jacksonville from the Mandarin Art Festival on Mandarin Road.
Previous bridge closures
Earlier work on southbound lanes of the bridge have caused miles-long backups, so take another route if possible. Those include detouring to the Shands Bridge (37 miles round trip) to the south, or the Fuller Warren Bridge (42 miles round trip) to the north.
Work on the $5.4 million dollar project is expected to wrap up this summer. Earlier notices from FDOT indicated it would be done sooner.
