Joshua Jordan, 38, was charged with battery. He was released on bond early Wednesday, jail records show.

An arrest report says two firefighters got into an argument at Fire Station 53, at 4220 Jones Road, just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A fire lieutenant and two other fire engineers told police Jordan said he wanted to confront firefighter Justin Reynard Smith, 41, about “some issues they were having.”

Smith “stated that he kept walking away from (Jordan), but that the suspect followed him,” the report said. At least three other firefighters tried to defuse the situation, but it escalated into a physical fight.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue officials told News4Jax, a Jacksonville Today news partner, that they are conducting an internal review in coordination with the Sheriff’s Office.

“This situation is being taken seriously,” the department said in a statement. “We recognize that incidents like this are difficult not only for the individuals involved but also for the men and women who show up every day, dedicated to serving our community. The alleged behavior does not represent who we are or what JFRD stands for as an organization.”

Jordan has been temporarily reassigned to administrative duties during the investigations, the statement says.
