Duval County’s Supervisor of Elections Office has kicked off a proram to recruit the next generation of voters.
The effort to register and preregister voters will begin Wednesday at the South Campus of Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Elections staff visit 28 schools across Duval County through March 20.
The program also includes an opportunity for schools to win the Freedom Award Trophy and the title of the “Most Civic-Minded High School in Duval County.”
Florida residents can preregister to vote if they are at least 16 and meet all other eligibility requirements. That preregistration becomes an active registration when the person turns 18.
Current voters
As of Monday, the supervisor of elections lists 637,687 people registered to vote — 239,148 of them Democrats, 234,723 Republicans, 141,472 with no party affiliation and 22,344 with other parties.
To register to vote, students need a Florida driver license number, identification card number or the last four digits of their Social Security number.
