This week, the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1408 — representing dock workers at JAXPORT — celebrated the 30th anniversary of its scholarship fund by giving out more than ever: a total of $80,000 to 34 local college students. Recent Jackson High grad Jamaree Jenkins got a big surprise when he received the fund’s top award of $10,000. Jenkins plans to major in IT with a cyber security specialization at Florida State University this fall. Jenkins told Jacksonville Today, “It’s amazing. It’s a burden lifted off me. Not having to worry so much about financial situations allows me to focus on my school a lot more.”
