A new Jacksonville market offering products from all over Asia has a grand opening date. Lotte Plaza Market near Southside is set to open Sept. 12, three years after the Asian grocery chain purchased a building in 2022.
More than just groceries, produce, meat and seafood, Lotte will include a food court with a number of vendors.
The store will open in the 46,000-square-foot former Best Buy near the Regency Square Mall at 9355 Atlantic Blvd. Jacksonville’s Lotte Plaza Market will be the culmination of $9 million in renovation, according to the Jacksonville Daily Record, a Jacksonville Today news partner.
Last year, company president Alvin Lee said that changes in the city’s permitting process had slowed down plans to get the store open sooner.
Lee told the Daily Record that Lotte Market Plaza will fit well with Jacksonville’s “unique vibe and cultural heritage different from the rest of Florida.”
“I think the city will continue to enjoy steady growth into the future and we want to be a part of that,” he said.
The Jacksonville hypermarket will be the third in Florida — other stores are located in Orlando and Tampa — and the 17th in the U.S.
