The public pool at Carvill Park in Northwest Jacksonville was shut down close to a decade ago, and the city once considered demolishing it. But residents in the area fought hard to save their neighborhood pool. Volunteers with the Moncrief Springs Community Association, Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, and Northside Pride worked with the city’s Parks and Recreation Department to repair the pool and get it up and running for the first time since 2016. The neighborhood celebrated the pool’s long-awaited reopening on Saturday. It’s now open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
