Jaguars Hall of Famer Tony Boselli has been hired as the team’s executive vice president of football operations.

Boselli helped owner Shad Khan as the team hunted for a new head coach, ultimately hiring the Buccaneers’ Liam Coen.

Now the man who was the team’s first draft selection back in 1995 heads to the front office to work on the Jaguars’ future. Boselli called this “the right moment” in a statement released on the Jaguars’ website.

“Today, Shad Khan made my dream come true, and I am ready to get to work. Next step is finding our general manager, and that work is already underway,” Boselli said. “I was the first pick in franchise history; it’s not just a job — it’s my passion. And I am so excited to be a part of the team that brings the first championship to Duval.”

Khan said few people have better relationships in the NFL, know the game, and understand the value of strong team identity and culture than Tony Boselli.

“Tony has a wealth of football acumen that we respect and need,” Khan said. “His counsel will be tremendously valuable to me and our football leadership team during this current rebirth and for many seasons to come.”

Boselli will report to Khan, as will Coen, who was hired Jan. 24. He also will work with the team’s new general manager. The search for that candidate continues.

Khan fired General Manager Trent Baalke on Jan. 22, just over a month after Khan fired head coach Doug Pederson after a 4-13 season. The Jaguars went 25-43 during Baalke’s four-year tenure, and he became an object of scorn from fans over his choice of players and coaches.

Last week, Khan said he expects to have a general manager in place by the end of this month.

Boselli was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022, the only Jaguars player there.

“From the moment I was drafted, this is the only place I wanted to be,” Boselli said in his video statement. “This franchise is everything to me. It’s in my blood. We’ve been through a lot together. But right now is a great time to be a Jaguar.”

Boselli was a five-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time All-Pro, helping lead the Jaguars to the AFC championship game in just their second season.
