Saturday & Sunday

Local arts markets

Various locations

Black Friday is almost upon us. And if “shop small” or “support local” are your holiday-shopping mantra, you’ll have a plethora of opportunities this weekend. On Saturday, the Phoenix Arts and Innovation District hosts 20 local artisans and vendors for The Black Arts Magic Holiday Market (10 a.m.-6:05 p.m.), while the Melanin Market hosts its own Small Business Saturday on the Eastside near Downtown (noon-6 p.m.). Over in Riverside, eco-friendly home goods shop Cultivate hosts the Shop Small Holiday Market (noon-5 p.m.). And San Marco’s Balis Park is the site for the two-day San Marco Art Festival (10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday).

Sunday

Gallery Brunch Hop

Various locations | Urban Core

Sunday’s Gallery Brunch Hop is a great opportunity to pack in a whole lot of art and visit a majority of the region’s new and established art spaces. All told, 11 galleries in and around the city’s urban core will open their doors. Peep new works by Dustin Harewood at Share Art Space in San Marco; the latest Moving the Margins artist-in-residence Marcus Williams’ work at the Corner Gallery inside the Jessie Ball duPont Center in Downtown Jax; an array of compelling works by artists from the Southeast at Florida Mining’s current space in Riverside; and much more. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Free to attend. For a unique – and environmentally friendly – way to hop… er… ride between galleries, rent an electric bicycle from Art Bikes Jax, who will also provide an interactive map for the tour. More info
