The city of Jacksonville has launched its 2024 “Get Covered Jax” campaign to help uninsured people get covered.
The program will help residents navigate the Florida Health Insurance Marketplace at Healthcare.gov to find affordable or even no-cost options.
After the program began last year, the number of insured people in Duval County declined by 34%, the city said in a news release Monday.
“Thanks to Get Covered Jax, thousands of Jacksonville families now have coverage that provides peace of mind, preventive care and protection from life-altering medical debt,” Mayor Donna Deegan said in the release. “I hope that this year’s campaign encourages even more individuals to enroll in a plan.”
About 86,274 adults between ages of 19 and 65 — roughly 14% percent of that population — are uninsured in Duval County, the city says. From Nov. 1 to Jan. 15, eligible individuals can enroll in a private health care plan through the Florida Health Insurance Marketplace.
The campaign seeks to educate citizens about the benefits of having health insurance, eligibility, coverage options and best practices for navigating the Marketplace. It also provides resources to help consumers through the process.
The city will host a phone bank in partnership with WJXT-TV from noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 12 to answer questions about the enrollment process.
