Sulzbacher — an organization in Jacksonville that provides opportunities for homeless people to improve their lives — has launched a catering service that will support its two kitchens and help people develop food service skills.
The service launched Monday, and it’s called Inside the Box. The service offers business and event catering Monday through Friday. It allows you to order box lunches or family-style food for at least 15 people with 24 hours’ notice. The options include a choice of a sandwich, salad or wrap that comes with either one, two or three sides. Prices range from $9.98 for a meal with one side to $13.99 per meal with three sides.
Leah Lynch, president of the division that oversees food services, said the service will help to support the two kitchens Sulzbacher has that serve Jacksonville’s homeless population every day of the year. It also will give people a chance to learn skills in the food service industry.
“We feel like this is a really next big step for Sulzbacher,” Lynch said. “It is a way for us to generate our own funds. It is a way to show our donors and our supporters that we are investing in ourselves. And I think that long-term sustainability is something that the donors and our grantmakers are looking for us to find ways to do, and Inside the Box really provides that opportunity.”
The catering is run out of Sulzbacher Village in the Brentwood community.
Lynch said the food is prepared by chefs at the organization and volunteers. Eventually, Sulzbacher would like to have its residents help prepare the catering once they launch a culinary arts program in coming months.
