Wawa has designs on Baker County

Wawa is considering an expansion into Baker County with a gas station and convenience store.

Wawa already has a presence or plans in Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties. Now the Pennsylvania-based chain — legendary among Northeast natives — is showing interest in the fifth county in the five-county Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing an application for Wawa to build a 5,537-square-foot station and store on 2.54 acres along State Road 228 West, north of Interstate 10, in Macclenny. It is across the road from a Walmart Supercenter.
