A new beach walkover and more parking are on the way to Crescent Beach Park in southern St. Johns County.
Demolition of the old South Beach Grill restaurant on State Road A1A and Cubbage Road is continuing to make way for the project. The county said it purchased the property in June 2022 for $2 million and this project aligns with one of its major goals in providing the public with beach access.

Nathan Otter of the parks and recreation department said the beach walkover will be the first county-owned and operated walkover that will be fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The walkover will be accessible to people using a wheelchair.
“We’re all very aware that there’s not enough off-beach parking, and we’re doing everything that we possibly can to identify parcels and try to figure out ways to get people to our beaches, one of our best assets we have in St Johns County,” Otter said.
Jacksonville Today reached out to the county to learn how many parking spaces will be available, but county officials had not responded Tuesday afternoon.

The county said the project’s budget is $995,000 from the fiscal year 2024, which includes $145,000 for demolition and design plus $850,000 for construction.
Construction on the new beach walkover and parking spaces is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
