The Jaguars and Jacksonville officials began working on plans for renovations at EverBank Stadium in mid-2020, starting with an engineering assessment of the current facility. The Jaguars chose GHOK’s Sports + Recreation as the project architect.

Those plans were unveiled in June at 14 Stadium of the Future Community Huddles throughout Duval County, where team President Mark Lamping pitched an enclosed stadium that would cost between $1.3 billion and $1.4 billion. It would seat 62,000 fans for NFL games and 71,500 for college football games.

Negotiations on the new stadium are set to begin soon, and the team is asking to split the cost to renovate EverBank Stadium with the city. The Jacksonville City Council has hired its own representative for stadium negotiations, voting last month to contract with Michael Huyghue of Michael Huyghue & Associates LLC, a sports and entertainment consulting firm based in Jacksonville.
