tick, tick… BOOM! 

The Florida Ballet  | Arlington

Jax theater company The 5 & Dime brings Jonathan Larson’s explosive musical, tick, tick… BOOM! to the stage at the Florida Ballet. RENT creator Larson first performed this lesser-known piece, with its autobiographical script about life as an aspiring performing artist, as a solo production in the 1990s. After his death in 1996, the play was revived for off-Broadway production and a 2021 feature film. tick, tick…BOOM! opens on Friday (8 p.m.) with performances on Saturday (8 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.). Fragmental Reflections

Jessie Ball duPont Center | Downtown Jacksonville

The latest Moving the Margins artist in residence, Atlanta multimedia artist Lillian Blades, presents a series of new works at the Corner Gallery inside Downtown’s Jessie Ball duPont Center. Blades’ exhibit, Fragmental Reflections, is on view until November. An opening reception, featuring an artist talk with Blades, is on Saturday from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. The event is free to attend: More info here.

Queer Country Disco

WJCT Studios | Downtown Jacksonville 

Queer Country Disco — an annual Jacksonville event celebrating the music of queer Americana and country artists — is back for another rodeo. Featuring performances by Asheville-by-way-of-Miami alt-country star Rachel Angel, Duval electro-pop artist Daddy and Jax Americana band Folk is People, plus a costume contest, a lineup of local vendors and more, QCD 2023 takes over WJCT Studios on Saturday.
