Duval Schools is hiring the Florida School Boards Association as an outside consultant for its superintendent search.
According to a School Board discussion Tuesday, working with the nonprofit is cheaper and faster than hiring a national recruitment firm, as the district did in its last superintendent search in 2018.
School Board member April Carney said the School Boards Association also comes highly recommended from other Florida districts.
”There was not one negative comment, especially coming from Manatee and Brevard. They were extremely pleased with the results,” Carney said. “They were extremely pleased with the process and their level of professionalism. Same thing with Flagler County. They’re very excited about using (the association) for their search as well.”
The School Board is seeking to replace Superintendent Diana Greene, who took leave this month and will officially retire at the end of July. Deputy Superintendent Dana Kriznar has been appointed to fill the role temporarily.
At least six other districts looking for new superintendents this year, including Hillsborough County Schools. That superintendent, Addison Davis, retired from his post last week, leading to speculation he’s eyeing Duval County’s top spot. Davis was previously a Duval Schools staffer and Clay County Schools superintendent.
But Duval Schools hasn’t officially posted its job, and the Florida School Boards Association has recommended that the School Board hold community input sessions before it does.
