A Jacksonville man pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing a 7-week-old baby by throwing her against a wall.
Steven Michael Strahm, 30, will be sentenced April 7 for the death of Baby Scarlet in December 2021 in Jacksonville. Listed as the child’s caregiver, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse, court records show.
The baby’s mother found her having a seizure and rushed her to a hospital, according to a 2021 GoFundMe site. After hours of tests, doctors said the baby was bleeding on both sides of her brain.
A judge’s order denying bail said the baby was thrown “against a wall four or five times” between Dec. 6 and 9 “with a great amount of force,” then dropped on her head. It said Strahm failed to take the child to a doctor, telling nothing to the mother until a CT scan showed the brain bleeding, the GoFundMe site says.
