The rare disorder causes cells to deteriorate in the parts of the brain that control body movements and thinking. It typically affects people in their late 60s and 70s; the cause is unknown.

“Judy was a remarkable woman in every way. She lived a life filled with love and unselfishly gave her heart and soul to others,” the Coughlin family said in a statement, reported by WJCT News partner News4Jax. “Judy made you feel like an old friend from the first hug to the last. She was a mother to all on and off the field.”

Judy Coughlin was 77.
