OVERDU: The Art of Overstreet Ducasse 

Yellow House | Riverside 

Jacksonville-area artist Overstreet Ducasse shares an exhibition of works at the Riverside gallery and community space Yellow House. OVERDU features paintings and mixed-media works imbued with Ducasse’s distinctive style and penchant for wordplay, as the artist takes aim at a range of topics, from sports to celebrity, capitalism and social justice. An opening reception is Friday from 6-9 p.m. Free to attend. More information

Indie Bookstore Day 

Femme Fire Books | Riverside 

Saturday is Indie Bookstore Day, a national celebration of the important role independent, brick-and-mortar book sellers play in their local communities. New-ish indie retailer Femme Fire Books celebrates the occasion with a book club fair offering attendees an opportunity to sign up for an in-person book club that fits their interests and schedule. Special signed book plates, door prizes and more will also be available. More information

Jazz in Jax 

WJCT Soundstage | Downtown Jacksonville

In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, WJCT Public Media and the Jacksonville Music Experience host Jazz in Jax. The event kicks off with saxophonist Pablo Duque leading an ensemble from the University of North Florida. That performance is followed by a panel of jazz experts, curators, performers and promoters in a discussion illuminating the history and contemporary vibrancy of jazz in Northeast Florida. Then, the evening’s main event: Duval-bred, Grammy-winning drummer and educator Ulysses Owens Jr. leads a jazz jam with a group of friends and collaborators. 6 p.m. It’s free to attend but an RSVP is required. One-Thousand Taffy Apples & Floribunda

CoRK Arts District | Riverside 

A trio of emerging local visual artists – Lara Diblasio, Casey VanDyke, Joseph Provenza – will share new work as part of One-Thousand Taffy Apples, a group show exploring “unpredictable psychological landscapes,” with an opening reception on Saturday. At the same time at CoRK, catch Floribunda, an art show celebrating Florida’s unique biodiversity, co-presented by the Ixia Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society. The night includes food trucks in the CoRKyard and tunes by DJ John Drum (who is also a photographer with works on display). 6-9 p.m. Free to attend with works on sale.
